Doll Heads.....My New Love

Now I know it is kinda creepy to collect old doll heads but I gotta tell you that it has been fun shopping for them.  However, I have found that it is getting increasingly more difficult due to the fact that people are buying them up just to remove the EYES.  Must be a collectible currently as I have been told by many people.  Weird, huh?


Not only that but with Halloween around the corner it isn't difficult to see why dolls heads....and eyes, would be in demand.  But I do have some heads that I will be taking out to Monticello this week.  So if you are in need, please stop by my Brocanteur Vintage booth and have a look see.

Fall In The Pacific Northwest

Fall in the Northwest....is there anything better!?  Personally, I really like the change in season.  Leaves changing colors, pumpkins of all shapes and sizes and, of course, the Fall Harvest at the Pumpkin Patch on Suavie Island in Oregon.  Now if you have not been to Sauvie Island you must go.  It is a great place for fruits and vegetable, especially this time of the year.  This last weekend, they had their Fall Harvest festivities and it was a great time to take the kids out for a hay ride, cow caravan train and to eat lots of really great food.  The one item that we go there to get is the peaches and cream corn.  This has got all other varieties beat by a long shot.  Sweet and crisp, this is a DON'T MISS item in my book.  They sell it 4 ears for $1.00, can't beat the price.  Stock up and freeze an ear or two for later.

I made corn succotash with 5 ears of our bunch and it was fabulous.  Corn, red pepper, onion, herbs and whatever you like in the way of vegetables really.  Makes a healthy and seasonal dish.  You should give it a try.

So, if you get a chance to make it to Suavie Island over the next few weekends I encourage you to do so.  Don't miss this opportunity to get some great produce and have a fun time in the outdoors as well. 

Did You Go To The Camas Vintage Faire?

If you didn't make it to the Camas Vintage Faire then you missed
out.

There was so much great stuff that it was hard not to blow a bunch
of money before it even opened.  I had  to buy something for myself
that will make its way into my home that's for sure.

Being that this show has been done now for 3 years and just gets bigger and better is a tribute to the hard work that Debbie and Laurie of Worthy Goods and JoAnn Taylor of Camas Antiques do in order to make it run so smoothly.  I thank them all for their dedication to this really great show.

So, again, if you missed it well, make sure next year you don't.  We missed you all and hope to see you soon at the next show.

Bunnies, Bunnies Everywhere

There was a family who lived in our neighborhood not too long ago who let loose into the wild 2 domestic grey rabbits.

Here it is almost two years later and now there are about 50 rabbits running all around our house, in the alley, in the field and everywhere.

Did you know that they prefer apples to carrots on any given day, too.  I feed them daily (almost daily) and they are soooo cute when they come over and feed as a family and eat right out of my hands.

The one in the photo I think is a mother rabbit so she brings over her hubby and babies and eat our grass and lay in the shade under our trees.  The passing people who are on their walks bring food for them so there is no doubt that they will all be fat and happy while they slumber this upcoming winter.

Adult ADD......I Think

I'm thinking of changing my tickets......again.  There is not a day that goes by when I don't get bored with the tickets I have or I want to change them up to something "better".  Why is that?

I have the attention span of a squirrel and I jump from one thing to the next just as fast.  Now, this photo is what my new Brocanteur Vintage tags will look like for at least a couple of shows, but I have yet to determine a new one for Gifty Chix.

That one is always a problem.  Maybe I should just have one business name and stop making myself all crazy and stuff.  Yea, I say that but I never do it.  So off I go looking thru my photos and such trying to come up with a new tag or label or both.

Camas Vintage Street Faire Coming Your Way

Come one, come all to the Camas Vintage Street Faire 2011.

This great show is put on by the super team of Laurie and Debbie of Worthy Goods in conjunction with JoAnn of Camas Antiques.  These ladies work very hard to be sure this is one of the best shows to be a part of AND to be at.

Lots of wonderful vendors, food and, this year, music!  Can you believe it !  I have been a part of this show since the beginning and it just gets better and better all the time.

Not to be missed....so mark your calendars for August 27 to be in beautiful downtown Camas.

The Thrill Of The Hunt

There are many things in life that give me pleasure but I gotta tell you that I really get a kick out of finding something so cool that I have to think twice about selling it or keeping it for myself.

This wood pulley was exactly one of those items.  It came to me from a farm out in Canby and I drove and drove to this guy's place to not only find this pulley, but a entire array of items that were just to good to be true.

You see, he was a collector.  Not only of this type of item but of fireman's axes.  All types.  Big ones and small ones.  Also, animal traps.  Kinda yucky but.....and also, irons.  The type you iron your clothing with.  He must have had 50 of them dating back to who knows when.  Great stuff.

Anyway, I settled on this pulley, some duck decoys, galvanized pans and a bunch of other smaller items.  What a treat it was to visit his place and have him share with me the memories of all his years of collecting and partaking in the thrill of the hunt, too.
